Push Payment Fraud

Push payment fraud is when a person is tricked into authorising a real-time transfer of funds to a scammer impersonating a trusted organisation, like a bank representative for example.

Once the payment is made, your funds are immediately withdrawn.

How To Spot It

These are the red flags you should look out for:

  • Unsolicited contact: You receive unexpected phone calls, emails, or messages asking for money.
  • They pressure you to act fast: Scammers like to create a sense of urgency as this gives you less time to think and consider things thoroughly.

What To Do

There are steps you can take to empower yourself to fight back against scams:

  • Just say goodbye: Hang up and go directly to your service provider via their formal channels.
  • Verify: Contact the organisation via formal channels to confirm this request.
  • Report it: If you have been scammed, please report it immediately to the relevant organisation and/ or authorities, as well as the Yima reporting function below, or the Yima scams hotline.

Stop. Think. Verify. Don't get scammed!
