Remote Access Scams

You are contacted by a scammer posing as a service provider that is known to you. They request 'remote access' to your device to do a security check, update or transaction.

Once you accept the invite or access request, the scammer takes control of your device, with complete access to all accounts linked to your device.

How To Spot It

These are the red flags you should look out for:

  • The contact is unsolicited. You receive an unexpected phone call, and you are not aware of this request/ update.
  • They pressure you to act fast. Scammers like to create a sense of urgency as this gives you less time to think and consider things thoroughly. They may say things like if you do not let them do this now, you are at risk, or it may impact you negatively.

What To Do

There are steps you can take to empower yourself to fight back against scams:

  • Just say goodbye: Hang up and go directly to your service provider via their formal channels.
  • Report it: If you have been scammed, please report it immediately to the relevant organisation and/ or authorities, as well as the Yima reporting function below, or the Yima scams hotline.

Stop. Think. Verify. Don't get scammed!
